They certainly look like Castell keys to me, I wonder if Macain is a Swansea variant of machine ?

Yep, Castell lock keys. They were common on the coal prep plants, and we fitted Castell locks to the Heliminers at Boulby.

I think they must have heard of a Cowley-Shaw Walker stage loader.

I wonder if the keys have McCain engraved on them?? They are certainly Castell keys though, no doubt about that.

They are Castell lock keys and were used on interlock systems fitted to power loaders, I'm fairly sure Macain was an attempt at machine .............. "loader macains", I'd bet a full tanner on it ;D

As you're probably right Daz, I won't take you up on the bet. Although I never saw Castell locks on face machinery in my NCB days, they were popular on the coal prep plants and like I said Boulby had them on the Heliminers to prevent accidents during maintenance and "picking up".
