I was at Boulby when this happened, dayshift, one of our labourers stopped and picked me up in Loftus, I got in his car and off we set. He had a pint bottle of milk he was supping while he drove the car, we went past the Tiger Inn at Easington and over the brow of Boulby Bank.
Anyone who has lived in North Yorks knows what a "bank" is, it's usually a pretty steep hill!
The mine turn off was at the bottom of Boulby Bank, we were about half way down when he reached over and said hold this, his bottle of milk, as cool as a cucumber, whats up I said, I've lost me friggin brakes.... He pulled on his handbrake slowing us down a tad, mine entrance approaching at warp ten, he did a right turn on two wheels, the feller at the "guardhouse" must have wondered what was going on... We arrived at the carpark, he managed to stop the car with the handbrake....Out we got and I left him examining his brakes.
I'd got changed and was at the PPM window when he turned up, someones cut me frigging brake lines!! He called the police and let them know.
A scary ride into work!!!
