There's been a lot of talk lately about potash but how much does it cost a tonne? Sirius are basing their calculations on future long term selling prices for Potash maintaining US$500 tonne.

WOW!! That's expensive, there's a few potash mines in Canada and the US, not to mention Spain, Germany, Poland and I think Russia has a couple. But even at $500 a tonne, Sirius appear to be taking a huge gamble.
I don't know what the price per tonne was in the mid 70's, but there were times Boulby looked like failing, they were always deep in the red when I was working there and from what I can make out, it was closed briefly and put on care and maintenance in the early 80's.
The Chairman, gave us a monthly update and lecture, he knew we couldn't do much better.

Canadian prices appear to have fallen slightly in the last few months but the latest prices I've seen Potash was at Can$450, so maybe Sirius aren't Siriusly far off the mark.
