"1 Visit 1.20% "vacuum contactor" vacutac"
Wallacetown Eng, (Wecol) Used two types of vacuum interupters, that I'm aware of, in their range of gate end boxes, one was their own brand, the "Vacutac" and the other the GE. I got acquainted with the A67 GEB with Vacutacs in the 70's at Boulby. Conditions were very hot and we had big problems with the contactor coil burning out. It was a large "slab" as against the coil style used in standard GEB's and just couldn't keep cool... I worked with the A67's in Oz too using the Vacutacs where we had no problems whatsoever..

"1 Visit 1.20% a67 wallis town chassy"
Being brought up in the industry during the early 60's onwards, one thing I liked was the NCB Spec gate end boxes. So easy to work on. The first ones I worked on were made by AEI/Met Vick, once you pulled the chassis out all that was left was the main contacts at the back and a pilot/sequence link board on the right. Then Met Vick placed all the relays etc in a small "suitcase" which made breakdown maintenance a breeze. Next stage was sensitive earth leakage protection. Baldwin and Francis approached this by installing everything in a suitcase, the other companies dropped out of GEB manufacture, and left B&F and Wecol to it. Wecol installed the E/L module on the chassis right on the base plate, a cow to replace when it went faulty, they never adopted the suitcase idea. The last Wecols I worked on in the UK were the A67's and A69's, they were all solid state controlled, plug in modules for O/L and S/C protection, modules for sequencing etc... If my memory serves me right, there were four plug in modules plus the main E/L module on the chassis.. Between Wecol and B&F, I much preferred the B&F, far easier to service and fault find on.

"1 Visit 0.93% purpose of diode in pilot circuit"
The pilot circuit is basically an earth continuity protection circuit, should the circuit "open circuit", say during a damaged cable incident, it will cause the power to be isolated from the main cable power cores.
But, in saying that, sometimes it will get shorted to earth, to prevent a danger, pilot relays are polarized, ie will only operate from a DC component within the circuit. How this is achieved is by having a shorted copper tube that the relay coil is wound on, this does not affect the relays operation, bar causing a slight delay on energising, but will cause the relay to drop out should it be subject to AC. (Acts like a winding of a transformer that is short circuited)
So a remote diode is used as the second protection, in normal operation the diode will rectify the ac component and cause the pilot relay to energize, should either an open or short circuit occur to the power cable, the pilot relay will open.

Several of the servers are down due to hard drive failures and it doesn't look like server box 5, which my colliery site is hosted on is ever going to be restored. I will as time permits seek another host and restore the site, but my time is limited at the moment.

Hi Tygwyn, As I understand it the keyword analysis listings just show hits on this site as a result of web searches for the keywords mentioned - it doesn't mean that people have actually posted questions on here. I may be wrong (I usually am...) but I'm sure John can tell us more. Perhaps a prominent "Mining Questions" section might help, with a request for people who have found themselves on this site as a result of a web search to post an actual question? I often see subjects listed that I might be able to help with, but without reading an actual question it can be hard to come up with an answer if you know what I mean.

OK, I installed a site with it's link on this sites "header" Members don't see this, but I go to that site for information and see what people visit the site. Now the "KeyWord Analysis" is basically when a person does a search in Google/Yahoo or any search engine and are directed to this site it logs those folks as guests in the other site. The "Keywords" are the search parameter, ie if I do a search for lets say "Clifton Colliery", the search will turn up all the sites listing "Clifton Colliery", now if I select this site from those showing on the search engine, it will log the guest making the search for Clifton Colliery as a Keyword Analysis. Hope I cleared that up, I'm hopeless at explaining things.

Thanks Shropshirebloke and John, Like you,i thought i may be able to help re Danygraig,as i worked there twice for different owners in the late 70`s and early 80`s,and the present working of Danygraig No.4,if they have started back after another stopage, was a drivage through the 80`s gobs to reach the take the otherside of a small fault.
Out of interest, what was the question on Danygraig?

Not really sure what is wanted, but when I worked for the NCB in the 60's it was a three shift system, days, afters and nights were the norm, Cotgrave worked days, nights afters though, not sure if any other pit worked that system, but gave us a "long weekend" every week.

"1 Visit 0.86% +what is a downcast in underground coal mining"
Mines have to be ventilated to remove noxious and explosive gases, and give the men working underground a supply of fresh air, this is accomplished by a mechanical device called a ventilation fan, usually mounted on the surface and usually "extracting" air from the mine workings. The shaft where air enters a mine is known as the "Downcast" shaft, and the shaft where air comes out of the mine is called an "Upcast" shaft. On the ventilation maps of a mine, all "Intake" (fresh air roads) are marked in blue and all "Returns roads" (foul air) are marked in Red.

"1 Visit 0.86% China learn long wall mining from usa"
I doubt it very much, in fact the USA adopted longwall mining from the Europeans, where it's been in use for a couple of centuries or more.
