Sounds very much like it, people just don't realize you don't have to touch high voltage lines, just get within an inch and bang! They also don't realize the tremendous danger associated with high voltage shocks. I was authorized to enter the switching yards, but never went in unless I had a damned good reason. I was warned by my engineer ALWAYS STAY WITHIN THE TWO MARKED LINES, never to stray outside of them while power was on. And we only had 66Kv, enough to blast me to the moon or "higher" should I be stupid.

I thought that, but according to The Telegraph and BBC Notts sites they were employed there as security guards. The poor b*ggers are described as being in a critical but stable condition - I hope they pull through.

Blast is according to the local fire brigade from a small substation.

Sounds extremely suspicious... My guess is they thought the subs were dead and decided to "borrow some" copper cables..... Note in the BBC article, Detectives are investigating, if it had been a pure accident, Detectives wouldn't have been involved.

[b My guess is they thought the subs were dead and decided to "borrow some" copper cables..... [/b][/quote] If that was what happened then they got what was coming to them - but I'll wish them well until I know it wasn't just an accident.
