did you ever watch harland county?it was on when channel 4 first kiked off. This was the opening song
About the same time trhe was a program about a miner turned poet; Barry heath, from nottingham somehere. at the time I was a folk singer around the pubs and tuened a few of his poems into songs. sadly now i have lost the vidieo. One especialy went; I got some knocks from props and chocks on me elbows hands and knees. an i worked on faces 3 feet high where you neither see nor breath. The blue scars clog my face and back and the black dust choaks me veins the a bonus from the trade i'm in. Thje curse called the mining game.
cant remember the rest but it was really good

Right John, talk me through it using the youtube icon. Here's a better way Bill, click on quote of this post, you will see how it's done. Basically, when you post, click on the Youtube Icon, and paste the Youtube video between the two Youtube tags. But, quote my post to see an example. You will need to copy the Youtube video address from your browsers address bar then paste it between the youtube "tags" like this[*youtube] [*/youtube] Then this is what people will see...

I've been looking on YouTube for Jack Elliott of Birtley songs without success. If anyone comes across any please let me know.
Rap her to Bank is a favorite of mine. I was lucky enough to receive a copy of Johnny Handles CD with this song on it. But Jack Elliott wrote it and I vaguely remember watching Tyne Tees Television in the 1960's and Rap Her to Bank was featured on it. I think it was Jack Elliott singing it but I'm not certain.
Fingers crossed someone can find a video.
Ta.

There are some other sites like Youtube Bill, can't think of the names of them for the moment, I'll post links to them when I've woke up and my single brain cell starts working.

I'll also take a look at Proboards site to see if there's a flash file script I can add to take videos from other sites later.

At the top of this site you can search the Farne archives by subject or name, one or two names there that you will recognise Bill (Armstrong, Billy Pig etc)

John / Daz. Thanks for the links.
Some great music.
Armstrong and Pigg great Pipers Daz. Jack Elliott has some fantastic songs on Farne archives. It brought back some memories I can tell you.
I forgot I was sent a tape of Jack Elliotts songs by Joe Nolan, must be nearly 20 years ago. The tape must be in my loft.
I still have those cd's Daz sent me, loads of mining songs on them.
Gan canny.

I have posted the same link to the “Farne Folk Archive North East” on another forum and from the replies I received back I realise that I didn’t explain all too well how to use this fantastic site, so at the risk of seeming pedantic; Click onto this link; www.asaplive.com/archive/index.aspthen select search by ‘Format’ from the drop down list select ‘Sound Recording’ click ‘Search’ and then scroll and select any recording, click Mp3 and the recording will open in Window’s Media. There is so much unique mining history recorded here it would be a crime to miss it, not just songs and music. The Farne Folk Archive doesn’t just hold these fantastic recordings of course there is so much more, written word, poetry, photography etc but this topic did relate originally to mining songs, don’t miss them.

On the Mudcat forum if you go to the box Lyrics & Knowledge Search and type in mining it comes up with a couple of hundred, with 'mining' in the lyrics.
