Thank you J, but that wasn't quite what I was trying to ask, I know where Sherwood Colliery was, it is the actual picture that I was asking about, what is it a background to and where is it to be found?

The photo is one of many Shane Phillips sent me a while back, this one is on my Coal Collieries and Mining website Daz. I put it on here ages ago, but with the sites servers crashing it reverted back to the black background. So today I re entered the URL and voila, a mining background to our forum.

That's odd then, it's entered correctly, everyone should see the tiled photo of the pit. I'll have to create another profile to check the site out..

I think I'm losing the plot here, I enter this forum using this address; coalmine.proboards.com/index.cgiI thought the the original message that you posted re the Sherwood background pic. related to this forum. I hadn't even looked at your other site; coalcollieryandmining.110mb.com/as there wasn't any reference to it in your post. So, back to the original question, where is the background pic.?

Is there any way to view the background picture in its fullness? It looks like it would make a great picture for a jigsaw puzzle!!! Ken

Is there any way to view the background picture in its fullness? It looks like it would make a great picture for a jigsaw puzzle!!! Ken Not that I'm aware of, it's called "tiling" it's caused by Proboards software automatically reducing the size of images. You will notice there are four images of the same pit, two full ones and two partial ones.. I will have a go at trying to fool Proboards when I change the image and see if it will post a full image. I have the same problem with the website of the same name no matter what the image size as a background. Smaller images produce more "tiles" larger fewer.

Ken did you mean just a pic of the Sherwood background, I suppose this isn't large enough to blow up to jigsaw size, but John's copy might be bigger.

I don't think the copy I have of Sherwood Colliery is large enough to enlarge to jigsaw size. It would end up pixelatted. When I've finished loading all my data onto this machine, I'll enlarge it to see how much I can go before it becomes a mess...

Background image is Cotgrave Colliery, used by kind permission of Shane Phillips.
From what I remember from early 1968 when we were taken on a visit before Clifton closed, the train loading bunkering system was one long building that loaded a load of rail cars at the same time. Cotgrave had a merry go round train, picking up coal and delivering it to the power station then returning for another load. I also recall the shower/changing room was two stories, my lockers were on the second story. In these early photos, the shower block was just a one story building.

Does anyone know if you can buy copies of the technical drawings? Saw an engineering drawing of a steam loco in a frame, it looked very good. I reckon a trepanner would look good in a frame too.
