One of the links that John gave has a secondary link; www.sip.ie/sip019B/team/team.htmtake a close look at this Lannie, it is the result of project put together by schoolchildren from the Firoda school in Castlecomer, Kilkenny under the direction of their headteacher Martin Fogarty. All the children involved were pre-secondary school but under the guidance of Martin, attempted, and in my opinion succeeded in putting together a great 'memorial' to the now almost defunct coalmining of the area that they live in ............. almost defunct, in so much as all the major coal mines are long gone but at least until a few years ago, there was one small drift mine still working, the last working coal mine in Ireland. I was invited to visit the school a few years ago and lucky enough to be given a whirlwind tour of the little remaining evidence of coal mining that remains, which is not a lot I might add, other than what was then a working mine owned by Larry Power. I would suggest that it might well be worthwhile contacting Martin Fogarty via the school website and asking his advice regarding as to what if anything is worth a visit ........ there was talk of establishing some sort of visitors centre/museum. There is plenty of metalliferous mining history 'relics' and history in Southern Ireland, Cork and Wicklow being areas of particular interest .............. to me at least.

There has been an Irish Coal Mine owner putting some posts on the Welsh Coalminers web site. He has been trying to find an AB 15 undercut machine for his drift mine.

They are after an AB12 Lannie, as it's still possible to get used parts for them. (Anderson Boyes 12 inch) Very simple machines, used a ratchet and pawl haulage system, will accept different jib lengths and probably 550 volt FLP motor.

Yes, I took some pics. If you would like to put them on here I can email them to you so you can set it up to host them. Didn't get to go underground, didn't have time.
