I'm the governor responsible for Health and Safety at a local school, I contacted the Site Manager (Caretaker) another ex miner to arrange a "Walkabout" He asked what day I wanted to do it but I said I would turn up and surprise him as I didn't want the classrooms "stonedusted" before I got there!!!!

I once asked an HMI with whom I had become friendly (strictly on his terms of course) and to whom I often turned for advice, why they almost invariably (though not always as I can well testify to) pre-anounced their visit. 'Why let us know when you're coming, since you know that everything will be stonedusted etc.?' 'As you see, the stonedust has been spread, and efforts made to rectify all faults. Would you have done so AFTER a visit?' I found through many years of experience that HMI's very, very rarely did anything without purpose.
