Anyone know of a Lou Kyle of Tilmanstone in Kent who was sacked during the strike in 84/85 but reinstated at Betteshanger? He went "up north" and I understand that he ended up at Kellingly until 2005

Hi Sam. After Askern pit 'Doncaster Area' closed in 1991, i transfered to Riccall mine 'Selby'. It was there that i worked alongside a Lou Kyle who had transfered from Kent with a number of lads. I know he was an active union man during the strike, so it sounds like the same person you are looking for. I finished just before Riccall closed in about 2003 ish. I'm nearly sure to the back end, he became a deputy. I heard he was at Kellingley, which is only a mile from where i live, but as a contractor. He may have taken his redundo. He has passed me a few times from Kellingley direction toward Selby where he lived. A few of our lads are still there, who i'm still in touch with and i don't think it would be too difficult to get a message to him.

Ayup Sam.
As i mentioned earlier, i knew Lou quite well, he was, and no doubt still is a sound bloke. I will get in touch with the lads i know and hopefully you two will be reunited . What a brilliant site this is, all the old lads reunited. Keep on line and i'll try my best over the next couple of day's to get you back in touch with him. I don't yet know how this site works, but if i get a forwarding phone number, i will pass it on to you.
regards. Kellboy.

Ayup Sam. Just called on one of my Kellingley mates. Lou is still there contracting. My mate's off sick till next week, but when he gets back to work if he hasn't run into him in a couple of days, he'll leave a note on his lamp with my phone number to contact me asap. I should be able to get you back in contact. Would'nt mind a bit of a catchup myself. Maybe even get him to get on this site.
Regards Kellboy

Ayup Sam.
Came up trumps with my mate at Kellingley. Lou got in touch today. I've put him onto this and he said he was going to have a look. You should be in touch shortly. Hope he signs up.
Regards Kellboy.

That's good news, always nice to hear of old mates "hooking up" again. I just wished I could locate some of my old mates.....Probably all in hiding from me... ;D

I've searched high and low on the internet for the mates I used to go out drinking with and served my apprenticeship with, found a few, one passed on around three years back now in fact his birthday was yesterday, he was TSJ on this site, was a shock. But it's amazing how all the others have gone into the woodwork over the years!! I'm 65 this year, so there's a good chance some of them have gone to the great longwall in the sky.
