Does anyone know how many "small" mines are left in the UK and what the total annual output is?

A new small mine company has been registerd in South Wales, They are going to re-open Ffynonduon No3 Drift near Bargoed. They are going to work the Brithdir seam.

will tell you of 2. Ayle colliery Alston, and the one next door to it....Hill Top above Bacup, Lancashire...next door, but doors 120 miles apart.

here is a link for you tube. It's actualy Tows Bank colliery. It was the most westerly of the Alston pits before you hit the Stublick dyke and the free coals came back in. It's in the early 90's . The coal is about a foot thick. All the Alston pits were worked the same way.

Just found this. had it on vid but lost it. Fred Dibnah when he did his pit. I'm on at 42 mins. Before us was Florence in Egremont.
Now titled ' Dad before he got middle ages spread'

This was Grimebridge colliery in 88. That's me (sorry for being boring) on the pick. John Nuttlal is drawing and Brian 'Burnley Bill' taylor is throwing the coal back.
We were all colliers but hasd waited back after the shift for the film crew. It was the friday of sept holls so we wanted a soon finish. The director pulled a wedge out of his pocket and asked how much we wanted for stopping back. Billy said some small amount, 10 or 20 quid.....
