For over 8 years I have been trying to find a photograph of the above distant family member of my wife's. A brief history of John is as follows;
John Robinson Felton was born in 1880 in Bebside Colliery along with his other brother and three sisters. Like his father he became a miner but also like his father he studied mine management and gained his managers certificate on the 16th June 1903. He then obtained his qualification as a surveyor of mines on the 29 November 1912.. He was the manager of West Stanley Colliery, Durham for 4 years and in 1908 was appointed H.M. Inspector of Mines, South Staffs. He transfered to Yorkshire in 1923 and became Divisional Inspector, North Midland Division in June 1924. In October 1937 he was appointed Deputy Chief Inspector and in 1942 Chief Inspector. He was President, South Staffs and Warwickshire Institute of Mining Engineers 1920-22, and President, Midlands Counties Institution 1936-7.
His address at his time was; Ministry of Fuel and Power (Coal Division), King's Building, Dean Stanley Street, Millbank, London. SW1
On the 1st of January 1920 he was awarded an OBE. On the 1st January 1946 he was given the honor of a Knighthood.
After he retired he lived at 49 Bastead Road South, Sutton, Surrey and he died there in Apr-Jun 1962 at the age of 82.
Thank you for any help you can give.

Just a thought, but have you tried the present Chief Inspector of Mines Office? They may have some photographs of previous Inspectors of the years. Or as a second thought, the Coal Authority?? They hold many UK colliery records.
