Website rebuild is coming along fine. I'm in the process of adding backgrounds to the pages I have finished, a little more work to do on them, and then the old site comes down and the new pages will be uploaded.
I've spent hours looking for information on collieries, geology of areas etc etc. There are many more hours to put into this project before I have all the information posted. But at least I can get the framework with some of the information uploaded. This is the new Index page minus the background image.
Coal, Collieries and Mining.
A site dedicated to the history and technology of coal mining, and those who have worked in and those still working in the industry.
Acknowledgments.
Preface.
My Story, and Those I worked With.
NCB Organisation, Divisions, Areas and Collieries Lists. In this section are the collieries, their history, photographs, seams worked, depths, locations and individual stories sent in by workers from those pits. When complete, it should be a comprehensive history of UK coal mining.
Technology, Methods and Equipment. You'll find old machinery manuals, types of mining found in coal, history of technology etc.
Links To Interesting Mining Sites.
Mining Stories.
Old NCB Training Manuals and Other Old NCB Booklets.
Books, Videos, Music Reviews and Adverts For Same.
Mining In Other Countries.
I'm continually looking for material, this site will never be "finished"! Check your attics, sheds, garages, I'm after stories, doesn't matter how old, Newspaper articles, "high quality" scans of photos not less than 1mb please!! I'll size them and digitally clean them here, maps, anything related to the coal industry that I can use in the site. All material, photos etc will be acknowledged to it's donator.
Email them to me at lecko2000(at)yahoo(dot)com Sorry it's not a live link, but saves me getting tons of spam mails.
Don't forget to drop by our forum too!! Coal, Colliery and Mining.
Do you have a mining site and find it a hard keeping it up?? I can accomodate it here as an "Annex" linked from the other pages. All you'd need to do after it's installed here is supply updates to me to add to your pages.

Still tons of work to do on the rebuild, took a few weeks rest from it as it was getting a tad tedious. Added more material yesterday I found in my papers about Hucknall No1 and No2 collieries.
I have many hours of searching and research some 300 pits across Britain yet too, any information, no matter how insignificant it appears will be handy with photos, old newspaper stories, info on relatives who worked "dahn pit" would be appreciated, photos, just about anything!!

Looks like Proboards is having problems....
My host for the Coal, Collieries and Mining website has major problems, the site is still up, but I'm unable to access the files. Seems many other members are having access problems too. Seems 110mb.com has sold the servers to another company a few weeks back and there the troubles lie. I'm reading some very irate posts in their support forums, especially from those that are paying for the services!!
So with reluctance I'll be looking for a new host for that site, I know it's going to be hard finding a free host that allows so much free disk space. Now I'm committed to posting so much data I need masses of space!
I also hate moving, as everyone gets so used to where the site is, plus I have to notify everyone who posts the link to that site.

This project is taking longer than anticipated due to the amount of new material I have and the site extending to the whole UK coal industry.
This is not additions to the old site, but a whole rebuild of the site.

I'm still working hard on the site rebuild as and when I have a moment, this is time consuming, plus testing each segment as it's finished for bugs. I can't give a time for when I replace the old site for the new material. I was expecting to be done ages ago!! BUT, I have a long way to go before it's complete. It will be worth it though!! A comprehensive UK colliery site.

Apologies for anyone looking for the Coal, Collieries and Mining site, for three days 110Mb.com has had a couple of servers down. This seems to be an ongoing problem since the new company took over the servers.
It gets a little frustrating for folks looking for information, and myself not being able to access my site. So I am looking for a new host to publish the site on over the next week or two, when I have located a host with large enough disc space, no ads and free hosting, I'll upload material, and as soon as 110mb.com get their act together, I'll post a redirect link to the new host.
Seems I'm not the only one frustrated with 110mb.com, many paying clients are moving away from them too, judging by the comments on their support forum.

The host for that site, is moving the servers from The Netherlands to the US, where damaged hard drives will be replaced and data backed up. Many sites including mine are down at the moment, and should be back up and running over the next few weeks, so anyone clicking on the link to Coal, Collieries and Mining site will get an error message for the moment.

The Coal, Collieries and Mining website is back up...I'll see how they reliable they are over the next few weeks with the new server location and new drives. If they haven't improved, I'll move the site to a new host.

It's been up for a few weeks, but still don't have access to the files to work on the site. Time I started looking for a new reliable host to host that site. Next few days as I have a minute, I'll be looking for a host, registering and uploading some of the new site. To say I'm peed off with 110Mb.com, is an understatement.

CALLING ALL MINEWORKERS!!! Due to recent changes in legislation you may be entitled to additional compensation!! In November 2010 a court hearing declared that many solicitors acting for the NUM, UDM and other associated miners unions had negligently misrepresented their clients in Vibration White Finger cases. As a result of this misrepresentation many miners were massively underpaid, in some cases by tens of thousands of pounds. The majority of union solicitors failed to pursue a claim for ‘loss of services’, accepting the first offer they were presented. This often resulted in substantial losses in the overall amount of compensation. Out of 170,000 miners who claimed for Vibration White Finger in the ten year time frame, only 59,000 miners submitted claims for ‘loss of services’. This means over 100,000 miners will not have received the full amount of compensation they are entitled to. If you are a miner, spouse or family member of an ex miner who claimed for Vibration White Finger contact REBBECA BOLTON at ATRIUM LEGAL SERVICES ON 0800 840 1541 or via email/web enquiry using the details listed below. Well, looks like 110Mb.com has not fixed all the problems with their hosting after nearly two years, my site of the same name as this forum is down due to a server drive failure.
Over the last couple of months I've been monitoring the site, not been able to gain access to the files to update the site, several folders links failed.
I'm now looking for an alternate host that allows large sites free without advertising, as soon as I locate one I like, I'll pull my site and leave a redirect on the home page to the new site address.
It's not just the free hosting that's having problems either, there appear to be many paying site owners who are throwing the towel in with 110Mb.com's poor service.

I'm looking into a new home for the website of the same name as the forum, 110mb.com don't seem to want to restore the dozens of sites they hosted, mine being one of them. I've found a free hosting site that allows 10Gb of space, which is twice what the last host allowed, so it looks like I'll be registering a site with them. As soon as it's registered, I'll start uploading the old site plus amendments to it. As soon as it's up and working, I'll post a link to the site.

110mb as a hosting service is dead to me, they let their site owners down big time.
I'm looking at other hosting sites, and most now are offering advert/banner free 5GB plus free hosting, I'll be making a choice within the next week and register a site. Then I'll upload the updated site containing photos and information about collieries I have on file, including old NCB booklets. Once I have enough info uploaded, I'll post the URL. The site will be run as an extension of this forum to provide valuable mining information I cannot post here directly. When it's up, I'd be grateful to any member who could scan me ex NCB books/booklets to add to that site, you'll get the idea of what I'm after when the new site is up and running.
The home page will contain the menu, from that the menu will contain links to within the site for NCB divisions, then sub menus to areas and finally the pits of those areas containing info, photos, stories sent to me etc.
Other sub menus will cover equipment and manufactures manuals.
NCB booklets I have and sent to me are Cotgraves Blackshale, Shaft Story, Pit Ventilation, the old and new Mine Gases, Transport Underground, 1&2, Coal, Underground haulage by diesel and storage battery. Trailing Cables, Mechanisation at the Coalface, Manriding underground by rope haulage, Fault Finding Manual for the BJD Magnamatic Haulage Ends, plus numerous instruction books for the MCU 82 GEB, MDU 32 and Mu12 Drill units, AEI Mdu 34 drill unit, Met Vick Type 76 and 120 control unit, Met Vick MCU 150 GEB, plus other manuals of now long outdated switchgear.
Most of the material is in html files and link set up, so shouldn't take me long to get the site put together, then debugged ready for publishing.
I'll also scan the plans of Clifton and Cotgrave Collieries that I have and fit them in.
Most of this work had been done before 110mb let me down and I was getting ready to upload to their hosting.
There are some very old books I down loaded that I'd like to get on the site, reams of historical mining information.

Update, I'm gathering my files together from back up CD's, I had some problems due to Nero9 not being compatible with Win 7, so have been loading my files to an external hard drive on an XP machine. My text editor doesn't work on 7 either.....Oh the woes of site building!!! I'm holding off registering with a site host for the moment and sorting through my data, I did find my Index page for the update and some of the updated pages, which are debugged and work perfectly. Bear with me, this is going to be a big project, and is going to take many hours of continuous work and updates to the future site. My aim is to cover EVERY NCB/BC colliery that was working on Vesting day, I have most of Terry Blythes old site, and have his Sons permission to use that material, but that only covers Notts and Derbyshire collieries. So I'd appreciate material from folks who worked in collieries around the country to donate material, stories, photos etc. I'll acknowledge all material to it's contributor. So what am I looking for? 1/ Personal stories, you might think they are boring, BUT, we have a generation who know nothing about our working lives. 2/ NCB/BC booklets used in training, I've listed what I have on file and there are dozens more. 3/ Photos you might have in your possession, scan them at the highest resolution please!! I can reduce them size to suit the site. 4/ Anything about mining in your area, stories from old folk, don't dismiss anything as unimportant!! I'm trying to preserve our industrial past before it's too late!!

Update, been sorting files out, found the site updates I was doing five years back, so many hours of work have been saved, some fine tuning, alterations and the odd typo to sort out, then I can upload to a host of my choosing. This is a long term project as I don't have any photos or info on many collieries, especially those north of Notts coalfield, and that's a lot of pits!!

I'm working on an illustrated book called "The ART of Mining" John ..
I think sometimes it works better with facebook as it's more common for folk to use that.
There's quite a few pages dedicated there.
Tho we can look at doing something if you're interested? At the very least I could host you a site to use
Check my new site out first although it's early days so i'm not actually promoting this until I get some more content on it ..

Some great work there Alan, I worked with a guy in Oz, he was an electrician at Angus Place Colliery on afters, he was an amateur artist, used to draw cartoons for the company monthly magazines. He left the pit to became a full time artist, Garry Pettit he has his own studio and a website. He paints both portraits and landscapes in water colours.

Very cool yeah I'm intending to do a large number of illustrations depicting life darn't pit.
In fact I have been granted to do some underground photography at the Nation Mining Museum just up the road from me .. So I can get a load of reference shots.
I need my own reference work as you have to contend with copyright issues if I were use pics from google etc.
So I want to do paintings/illustrations of scenarios .. such as cable dragging, or main/tail gate rippers setting a beam etc. Sweat dust n wet conditions etc.
