I am currently researching my family tree and have found that my great uncle Andrew Agnew died in the 1947 William Pit Disaster, Does anyone know if there are likely to be any employment records held anywhere? Or what happened to the families of the miners who died - I know Andrew had a wife and two children but I can find no trace of what became of them.
Thanks
Rachel

Thanks Rachel I'll contact a lady who hails from that area, had relatives working the Cumbrian collieries, and wrote a book on the area. She now lives in Canada. Drop by often and check your thread.

Amanda Garraway's book "104 Men" ISBN-13: 978-190-452452-6 ..........(ISBN 1 904524 52 4 is the number shown inside my own copy of 104 Men, but this seems to have been changed)published by Hayloft Publishing Ltd. Page 15 of the book is dedicated to Andrew (Andy) Agnew, there is a photograph of Andy with one of his two sons, two memoriums posted in the Whitehaven Times one year after the disaster are transcribed. Original post modified to show alteration to ISBN, sorry.

It would still be an idea to email Amanda, she may well have a bit more info on the Agnew family, there isn't much in the 104 Men relating to his widow and two sons, it may well be that Amanda is in contact with Whitehaven people who remember what happened to the family after the disaster.
