Yup, official coalboard photographs that father just happned to find a spare set hanging around. Dip 5 was a record breaking face at the pit...a pit in its death throws

Just a note Clive, when LW8 was coming to an end, we were changing equipment from an AM400 to an AM500 shearer and a brand new AFC/chock shields and switchgear. A mat and myself asked the Deputy if we could take some pictures, we were on nights, so nobody of importance around. He said "I don't want to know anything, when do you plan to take them"? "tomorrow night" we said. Next night both my mate and myself had an SLR 35mm camera and flash in our snap bags. The blokes used to stay in the snap cabin for about half an hour having a bite and drink of tea before they started work. I said to the Deputy in a whisper, we are going up the face now! You starting early aren't you he said. He'd forgotten! Errr it's summat you don't want to see! What he said. You know, what we were on about last night. Oh! OK! I'll be up the face in half an hour then!
Needless to say, we both got plenty of pictures taken! That was down under in NSW, so we knew we wouldn't get searched, extremely rare on nights down there.

I haddnt been at the Valley long and was there one back shift repairing exaust on bike and father was welding his car up to get it through test. He had to go down to shaft pumps so I went with him, first time I'd been down shaft, as it was only used for acess for pumps.
Had camera on pit top, always wish I had taken it down and got some of shaft bottom...oh well
