Here's part of the deep soft seam workings at Cotgrave, 5 faces in all before the seam was abandoned due to poor geological conditions. Deep Soft is the top seam worked at Cotgrave, next is the Deep Hard seam. The map is north south orientated with most faces in the north side. Three roads are layed uot running north east, from the west is the main returns, centre road is the main loco and one of the intake roads, and the east side road is the main conveyor road, the other intake airway. The shafts are visible on the map as two small circles.

Hi John, is there any more to this map? I'd like to see what lies beneath Cotgrave further south. Many thanks.

Hi John, is there any more to this map? I'd like to see what lies beneath Cotgrave further south. Many thanks. As far as Deep Soft goes, only 5 faces were driven and operated, four shown in the map and one further towards pit bottom heading east...All finished by 1968 due to bad conditions, ie bad convergance..In 1968 five faces were cutting in the Deep Hard seam using two shearers per face, mostly AB16/200's single direction, T/G were sumping shearers to eliminate the stablehole.
I'll still check the drawings and scan any sections south of the village.

As you look at that plan, the three roads, main return, main Loco and main Conveyor roads, just past the village, is where the first four longwall faces were cutting, and one of them took off at right angles to the roads heading south east. A further development was being driven at right angles to the main road horizon just inbye of that face for a retreat longwall....It was a fair way in when I left in Nov of 68.

Thanks for the info John.
I was asking as I'm buying a house in that area and there was a Coal Mining Ground Subsidence claim nearby but now it turns out it was a leaking water mains that washed the clay away causing a road to collapse.

Chances are, any house due south of Cotgrave, south west and south east will suffer subsidence damage from Cotgraves Deep Hard workings.
I don't have the plans for the Blackshale seam, but would suspect they were to the south, south east and south west of Cotgrave village. They will cause even more subsidence as it was a thick seam.
