Looks like the bidding war is on over here for coalminers. I was offered an electrician job the other day making 10,000 a month plus free fuel. My dad just got a 5 dollar an hour raise for an outbye electrician 33 an hour and the section electricians are making 36 an hour. Theres another place that is paying 37 an hour for electrcians and 40 an hour for experienced Miner operators. If it keeps up I'm gonna back underground.

Damned good money, shows what happens when there's a world wide shortage of coal and everyone needs it. Must be over $200 a ton now!

It's looking good, give me a shake when the wage rate reaches around the $500 / hour rate and then I'll reconsider retirement. As at 19th Sept mettallurgical coal from Appalachia (@ 13,000 BTU quality) was only $150 per short ton and Australian thermal coal was at a low of AUS $140 per tonne. I have no idea about the commerce behind world coal prices but I would hazard an idiot's guess that recent coal prices are influenced more by China's determination to reduce coal import requirements than the global oil price increases.

Here yer go, hot off the press, Coal Prices; A deepening world economic slowdown could hurt demand for coal, pushing prices lower even though supplies are likely to remain tight due to equipment and labor shortages and safety-related shutdowns. At the moment, coal prices are well above last year's levels. Spot market prices for thermal coal to power U.S. utilities remain above $100 a ton, up from $56 a ton at the beginning of the year, while thermal coal in northern Europe is selling at $166 a ton, up from $152 a ton on Sept. 16. Prices peaked in the summer months of June and July and began falling ... online.wsj.com/article/SB122219424343167867.html?mod=
