I would like to say hello from the Eastern United States. I have always wanted to know what mining is like in other countrys. I had a chance to go to Austrailia and work but didn't. I am a underground electrician/diesel mechanic and have worked in just about every kind of section there are,Longwall, bridge, shuttle Car,and battery Hauler section. I am also editor of pickandshovel.org a website devoted to coal miners here in the U.S.Thanks and be safe.

There's a DBT video on this site on their plough, high speed machine. I too am a pit electrician by trade, spent most of my working life in one type of mine or another, finally finishing in coal at Angus Place Colliery, NSW Australia. Had my time stuck in the switch chamber of AB15's/AB16/125's/ and then in Anderson Strathclyde AM400 and an AM 500 shearers, not to mention a couple of Joy CM's, Heliminers and SC10 shuttlecars both American electrics and the British made electrics. God did I hate Joy machines! Too many electric motors! And too much to go wrong! Let the fitters have it all as hydraulics. Err Sorry Daz!
