Hi I am looking to stock up for the winter. I spoken the lady at Ayle colliery and a ton there prepacked large anthracite is a bit cheaper than buying Welsh anthracite .
So if anyone has burn Ayle anthracite in the past I would welcome your feedback.
Does it leave behind more ash? Does it make the glass black. Which gives our more heat? Which one has a longer burn time.
So far the cheapest qoute I had for a ton of latrg Welsh anthracite prepacked bags delivered to be in England is £630. If anyone does anyone cheap please pr ivate message me.

I've been pretty much exclusively burning Alston Anthracite from Ayle colliery for the past couple of years.
I can't comment on the quantity of ash as it has been a long time since I've used the Welsh stuff to compare. The Alston Anthracite ash is red in colour, whilst I remember the ash from the Welsh anthracite I was burning being more grey in colour. I get the occasional clinker but I think this is probably from running the stove a bit too hot.
I don't remember it ever making the stove glass black, even when slumbering.
Alston Anthracite gives off incredible heat, and in my opinion is easier to light than the Welsh Anthracite, as it probably contains a few more volatiles. There is a slight sulphur smell when it starts to burn, but not unpleasant.
One of the real draws for me with the Alston Anthracite is being able to go and pick it up direct from the mine. The drive up there is spectacular, the lasses in the office are great and the lads at the mine are in a class of their own.
I'm pleased to be able to support the last pit in the North of England by buying off them as and when I can.
