A long time ago Bill! I recall the Coal Board stopping all production and ordering all pit tips examined before production resumed. A disaster that could have been prevented had the Board done it's homework.

You're right John, in the aftermath of Aberfan NCB every area was forced to carry out pit tip checks.
The Aberfan Disaster could and should have been avoided, the danger signs were obvious and action should have been taken.

From what I read, the NCB were well aware of the drainage problem and stream years before the accident happened Bill. It was just waiting to happen.
