Hi Does anyone know I have old original lamp and cant refill fuel vessel. Trying to fill it with syringe. Seems as though fuel not soaking into the container material and speed back out. What can I do to get fuel in? Anybody any suggestions what do do and why it will not accept fuel. I have tried lighter fluid and lamp oil but realise lamp oil is no good as it is spark ignition. I am now trying to get method in but not much luck. I've had it lit a couple of times but it won go for long if I can't make it retain the fuel. Thanks

Thanks Sounds like the sponge in the base has deteriorated, Can't recall what it was made of, too long ago now.. But it's a major job to replace it, the base plate has to be desoldered to get at it. I wouldn't use meths in it anymore than petrol!! The closest fuel to colzalene is Colemans camping light fluid, and it's bloody expensive too!! BUT, smells the same and works well.
