Hi all, I served an apprenticeship at Davis Derby and part of that included a trip to Bentinck to go underground. This was around 1979/1980 ish. There were two other women besides me in our group. I remember the safety training, the lift, crawling along what I think was the coalface, bashing my head on low beams a couple of times and having to shower in the first aid room afterwards. What I can’t remember are specific details like the lift speed on the way down and how deep it was. If anyone can help, with some details for Bentinck that would be wonderful ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Thanks in advance

I believe it was 1968 when all coal was transported up the new drift instead of being hoisted in the cages. Production doubled in the first month of operation. I forget how many shafts the pit had, but from recollection they were on a perfect line.

Hi John, I believe on our trip out we may have been to the same pub. I wish I could remember more about it. Many thanks for your reply ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)
