I'm a new member researching mining activity at Hatfield Main Colliery. Is there anyone who can tell me if there was mining activity under the centre of Fishlake Village, near the church, after 1988? The reason for my query is parts of the village are experiencing a new level of subsidence which, in some instances, is requiring home owners to underpin their properties. The Coal Authority records state there was mining in this area in one seam at 610m to 630m, but no mining has taken place since 1988. I'm however wondering if the subsequent mine owners after British Coal may have opened up seams or explored under the centre of the village, which may not appear in the Coal Authority records. Is there any way of finding out if there was any later mining activity that could be affecting the centre of the village? All comments appreciated - many thanks.

All mining has to be recorded by law and surveyed, mine maps had to be updated monthly by the mines surveyor. The Coal Authority has all colliery abandonment plans at Mansfield.
From recollection, the NCB/BC and private coal mining companies were not allowed to mine under old churches or cemeteries, listed buildings were protected too, as were bridge footings and HV power line towers, some airports had to be left with a pillar to protect their runways from damage.
It sometimes takes a few years for the ground to settle on faces mined in deep seams.
