Came across this site by accident looking for something else and found a post about the drivages and I am sorry but they got it wrong. I worked in the intake drivages and the first one was P71s which was originally meant to go to 2000 MTRS but was pegged back to 1800 because of emense crush, the temperature in the intake drivage was over 45 degrees with 100% humidity and made the Guinness book of records as the deepest mine in Europe at a mile from the surface to the 1000mtr mark. The next was P70s which went to 1500mtrs and broke the colliery output record achieving the 1000,000 ton within 12 months. They stopped the other developments and that was the end. Good memories of good men and bloody good laughs.Very few jobs have the sense of homour of miners and the ones that do all have extreme danger in common.
