Anyone still got a coal fire ?

Apologies if this isn't in the correct section but there are so many & I wasn't sure where to post.

My old man was a sparky at the Vane Tempest in Seaham (County Durham)

He is one of very few in the are who still has a coal fire & receives his coal allowance.

After our latest coal delivery we have had some issues keeping the fire alight,   the phurnacite seems allot harder to light than usual &  doesn't turn to a fine ash like it normally does.

The ash doesn't fall through the bars & smothers the fire so it goes out.     After years of pretty much never going out it seems to have gone out every day this week.

I was just wondering if anyone else has been having similar issues

Most likely imported rubbish as they look to cut costs, when men stayed with their allowances instead of selling them out when the industry closed, men were assured their coal would remain the same but it didn't, all coal was imported and lots had problems with it, similarly the coke based fuels were also bought in at the cheapest price.

True, but if we don't produce deep mined coal it has to come from somewhere unfortunately.
