OK just registered a couple of days ago, Not an ex miner,, me dad wouldn't let me, he was at Wollaton till it shut then Clifton till that shut. I had to get a trade outside the mining industry he said, so finished up working in quarries as a fitter, I did spend a short time at H Cotterills as a welder making rear shields for Gullick Dobson roof supports, but after the pit closures there wasn't much work so back to the quarries, still its digging great holes in the ground and up till 1999 we came under the M&Q regulations. Coal will make a comeback when the technology is available and that great industry will once again be the best in the world, Cheers for now and Happy new year to you all. Roger

Roger Funny that Roger, I asked my Dad what he'd do if I wanted to "go dahn pit"... "Over my dead body" was his reply. Well I did and went down and he signed my indentures for me, that started my career in mining! He said I wouldn't like it, well I put in well over 25 years in the dark! Happy New Year Roger.. BTW I'm Ayupmeducks on the Nottstalgia forum!! I left you a PM with an internal link to the Shonkey pit!

Ayup youth Thanks for the reply, I'll checkout other web site in a bit, Not many pits left now and none at all where I live now (Lincolnshire). I'm trying my best to educate these carrot crunchers out here but it's a struggle,,, You have to repeat yourself every time you ask them anything. If I ask them to "Goo an get sommat or tell them "It's a bit black ovver Bill's Mothers" They look at me with a blank expression. Still don't give up eh Great web site by the way. Cheers
Roger

Cheers Roger Thanks Roger, just trying to preserve history for the newer generations that weren't brought up with headstocks at the end of the road. Do you realize when I was growing up in the 50's as a kid, we didn't have too far to see some headstocks?? Now there's a whole generation of teenagers who have never seen a pit!! John.

62 guests yesterday, I wonder how many were bots and how many real people... I'm going to have to add a counter tracker to find out.

I'm starting to see when I do Google on anything to do with mining now, we are starting to show up on a regular basis. Hopefully we will start to attract more members and start to get busy on a daily basis!
