For a young kid just underground after completing his U/G training it was an adventure. First the "cattle trucks" a rope hauled manrider where we climbed into low cars and sat on the floor, then after about a mile we would alight and change to 24 inch belts for the rest of the journey inbye. All obsolete after the more up to date rope hauled manrider/materials unit was installed. Two and a half mile ride taking us to 2's road where most of our districts ran from.
Cotgrave was a different kettle of fish, diesel loco hauled paddy trains from pit bottom to the north side faces.
