I was told that I can sell my coal and have miners come in on my farm and dig underground from the river and never bother the topsoil. Is this true? I always thought selling my coal would really harm the soil. If this is true, what is this type of mining called?

What does it depend on? When can it be done? I have a river so could they go in from there?

It depends on the thickness of cover above the coal.
It can be done at any time.

It is a kind of underground mining, where the ore needs to be digged deep beneath the surface for extracting the minerals.
