Hi all Just drove past Harworth Pit 19th Jan 2015, I pass often I then noticed that one of the head gears has gone there is only one left standing when I pass again I will wee if I can find anything Out.

There's a Facebook group that had posted some pictures recently of the caps being put on at Harworth. The other head gear is coming down soon. The shafts arnt filled, I think gas will be collected from the shafts to produce electric.

Same as Maltby near by No1 and No2 filled in but No3 left open and just capped for gas extraction

So that takes UK collieries down to what??? 3 working? Not counting the small pits. Pretty sad to say when I was a kid, you didn't have to walk far to see a headstock or hear the old steam engines winding coal or men.
