Does anyone know the whereabouts of the former Union Leader Roy Lynk?
Let me explain why I would like to contact him.
When I was a child and, as long as I can remember, I have drawn faces; no-one in particular, at first, but then when I had my children I used to sketch them as they played. I also (from about the age of 20 or so, until I was in my late 40's) drew the famous. Then I did no drawing for the following (approximately) 30 years until around three year's ago when I joined a local art group.
In April 2014, we had our art exhibition and one of my entries was of Roy Lynk, which was a pencil drawing which I entitled "The Miner". A professional artist was engaged to do the judging of the pictures and I won the drawing competition.
The picture I used dropped through my letterbox in 1992 on the front page of the Nottingham Evening Post following a week long sit-in, in protest about pit closures, when he emerged ; I knew nothing whatsoever about Roy Lynk but I saw a strong face which, despite not having done any drawing for many years, immediately thought that was a face I would like to draw. I cut it out and saved it; it has moved house with me twice since and, this year, I eventually got round to doing it.
I have since learned that a number of people despise him for not joining the miner's strike during Thatcher's time and think that, perhaps, he doesn't want people to know where he is and has left all that bitterness behind.
Nevertheless, my picture will be thrown away, which would be a shame when his family would probably like to keep it.
It is, of course, possible that he may have passed away and his wife may also be deceased, but his relatives may very well appreciate my picture. I don't want any payment for the picture, but I would be very happy to know it had a home.

View Attachment A good place to start would be to leave a message on the Nottstalgia site...nottstalgia.com/forums/ Someone on there may well know of Roy, or where he ended up.

Thank you very much John, but I have asked on the Nottstalgia site with no success ( not one reply I'm afraid).
I also sent an email to the NUDM office and received no reply either.
Also ...................... thank you Wheldale but without knowing what authority and where, I'm still stuck.
In the meantime, I'll keep my fingers crossed, after all it's early days yet on here.
Thanks again.

Thanks again. The coal authority oversea all of the coal operations in the UK. Roy Lynk was the chairman I believe when the coal authority was formed in 1995. They are on the web. If you get in touch with them they might be able to help you?

Did`nt he go to jail like the other weasel? I don't think Roy Lynk was involved in the scandle, he had left the UDM years before.

Sir David White was the chairman when the CA formed,Roy Lynk was on the board, there were many on the board in the first year, but was slimmed down, not sure how long he lasted there.

Finished a book a while back "Look Back in Anger" The Miners' Strike in Nottinghamshire 30Yrs on by Harry Paterson. YOP 2014, ISBN 9781907869952. It is an interesting read.
"a number of people despise him" =>> That is a substantial understatement. Pg284 "Used by the government and thrown away when he was of no further use"... "Well compensated for his treachery before he was betrayed in turn"
WRT your enquiry: =>>Pg 284 may help you. Reportedly "still alive & in his eighties", .....you should be on the look for the large silver Mercedes....."The place reeked of neglect and despair"

And dazbt ........................ R L certainly seems to be elusive, but I live in hope! Hello. I am the son of Roy Lynk. He is still alive but in poor health. If you still have the drawing which I think is excellent and of a great likeness I would be happy to discuss delivery.
