Does anyone know how the name of the Hutton seam was given? I don't know of any other seam named after a person. There was an amateur geologist James Hutton (1726-17970) of Scotland who it may have been named after. Anyone got any better ideas?

Off the top of my head,we have the Hughes and Payne`s seams in South Wales.

coal seams in Yorkshire were generally named after where they outcropped.
