I am looking for information regarding equipment that contained Asbestos and would have been salvaged by underground salvage teams 1962 through to 1986 @ Bentley Colliery Doncaster. As much info as possible Also any other items that were used underground that contained Asbestos and salvage men would or may have come into contact with.
In anticipation
Ian.

I don't recall any asbestos in underground equipment. Boilers would have been insulated with asbestos cement though as would all steam pipes. One of the washers in flame safety lamps was asbestos, it was replaced with a fibre washer, when??? I have no idea, probably in the late 1970's.

I couldn't for the life of me think of any, now you've made me think, brake shoes on diesel and electric locos, brakes on rope haulage engines, Pickrose's included, thruster brakes on conveyors. Brakes on LHD's and other electric and diesel powered vehicles.
I don't recollect any used on electrical equipment though..
Didn't pump packings use oiled asbestos?

Thanks for the speedy responses. Can anyone who may have worked at Bentley say as to wether Hard Stop may have contained it?

I don't know if hard stop contained asbestos, but it wouldn't surprise me. Artex, which was on sale to DIYers for domestic use, contained white asbestos until the mid 80s.
When I was a kid we used to throw broken bits of asbestos cement sheeting on to bonfires - it made a satisfying bang and threw off clouds of white fluff...
