Funny how its worth a simple mention in the press/tv that it has emerged that the government did in fact lie about their intentions to close 70 pits as was campaigned by the NUM at the time - I wonder what else they lied about? Hmm no public inquiry or outcry just ah well that's gone now.Had lying on the part of NUM officials come to light-oh dear pandemonium-no change there then total bias on the part of the media/government they still cant grasp that they have contributed towards our economic downfall by making us reliant on other countries to supply our energy just to "get their own back" what a bloody shower of S---

They lied about everything that didn't work in their favour. Media was their greatest asset to bring down the lads fighting to save coal.

theres a chap who has a caravan at the back of my parents 'van at flamborough,he was a engineer of some sort at ferrybridge power station.H e told my dad that the coal stocks were nothing like what was being reported. He told him that the centre of the stacks at the power stations were empty and a no fly zone over the power stations was in place to stop them filming the said stocks. coal being produced from ncb pits during the strike is what ultimately lead us to defeat, not mountainous coal stocks. Power stations like drax burn 30,000+ tonnes everyday, even thatcher couldn't keep 12 months supply piled up somewhere. scabs being paid extra money to produce coal while the rest of us were fighting for our,and their jobs was the real problem.I hope they are proud of themselves, they make me sick, even 30 years on.

Them stories of hollow stock piles have been bounded about before, like a lot of other stories, but a fact is,there were bigger stocks than normal,as the Government knew the strike was coming and prepared for it,but i agree, without the scab coal they would have diminished fairly quickly.
How many scab pits were working and what was their weekly output?
Was`nt there still foreign coal coming in through the docks? .

i was just pointing out what the chap who worked at ferrybridge said,he reckoned that by September they were drastically low on coal and i'll reiterate what he said regarding the hollowed out coal stocks,he said it was government propaganda that the coal stocks were as high as what was being reported. i'll be seeing him again come march,so will,on your behalf question his take on things.
