I can remember a paper called Coal News, not sure if monthly or weekly, it was full of mining stories . I was mentioned in a story about Lord Robens visit to Moorgreen TC, I shook his hand I think. (Everything was scrubbed & cleaned & we were all told to be good & not swear in front of him or else. ) My favourite part was the jokes page, I loved them..

Monthly, there's a link to about twenty years of them from when they first started on the site somewhere.

I'll have to have a trawl through the site to see if I can find them.

I got into coal news twice ,first time was winning the "safetymind" competition at colliery level in 1979. 2nd time was winning the riley shield (1st place ) in mines rescue competition with Kinsley drift mine in 1983 (I think)

One of the jokes in it I remember was two blokes, one of them saying "here comes the new Deputy," & Deputy Dawg walked down the road with helmet, light, flame lamp & stick. Another was a miner laying flat on his back in the cage coming up the shaft & a bloke saying "he likes to face the engine." I must have been easily amused back then.
