Who actually owns the land and mineral resources, who lifts it from the ground and who reaps the benefit? For a long I've thought it strange that nobody in Australia seems to have kicked up about the so called 'investments' that Indian and particularly Chinese mining interests have made over quite a few years, I see the odd comment made within the World Media that some minority or other have moaned about foreign investments but usually the main gripe is that anyone at all is mining on their doorstop. It's not just in Australia of course that Chinese and Indian 'concerns' are becoming resources vacuum cleaners, I'd love to see a list of exactly what mining related 'valuables' are foreign owned.

You'd have to do some research, but I think each state in Australia owns the mineral rights, the reason I make that assumption, is in NSW, the government licenses a mining company or individual to prospect and mine a mineral of a claim. They also take a percentage royalty of what is mined. USA, the land owner owns the mineral rights, that is unless a previous land owner hasn't sold those rights. On the deeds to my property, it shows I own all minerals below me.
