Wasn't Longannet closed due to flooding before the government started selling pits off???

I think Longannet flooded in 2002, Scotish Coal bought it in 95. Ive read somewhere that someone is looking into dewatering it. Dont know if it will ever happen?

Betws was closed by BC in 93,re-opened in 94 by management buyout.
Tower was closed in 94 by BC,but bought out by workforce.
Meaning they were not amongst the Mines offered up for sale at privatisation.
Did`nt realise the list of English Mines was that amount, but several are in the Selby complex.

Your right, my mistake, also Rossington, Calverton and Clipstone should be remove as RJB took them over prior to 95, also Silverdale too. Maybe I should change the list to British Coal collieries that passed into private ownership, then Aneesley/Bentink could be added.

Yes gascoignewood, but would that be classed as a mine? I know it was for the HMI, but didn't as such produce coal.

I think it is classed as a 'seperate mine' even though it was a drift where the coal won at the other mines came to the surface. I only live a couple of miles from the selby complex - there are still road signs up pointing the way to Gascoigne wood and Wistow mines.

No, I never worked in the UK industry. My dad and uncle were managers in collieries around Castleford.

I think Longannet flooded in 2002, Scottish Coal bought it in 95. Ive read somewhere that someone is looking into dewatering it. Dont know if it will ever happen? That is correct along with Castlebridge, but stories of it re opening have surfaced occasionally without any conformation.
