Tell us more about this mine Spank ........ what sort of minerals do they come across? Presume it's flourspar they're after but what else ............ thinking in terms of stone polishing.

Me mate says they are looking at getting a small team of local miners only 6 contractors to develop an area whilst they mine what they are up to now after dewatering has taken place, i had no idea that the mineral is mined vertically in seams and that they don't bring muck out of the mine just dump it back down old workings, trying to get my lad a job there. The mine is topside a little village in Derbyshire called Eyam famous for something else?"
Sounds like your mate has a taken on a real challenge, I hope it works out well for him and your lad. There were a few mines above Eyam, The Glebe (sp?) and Ladywash were the two that I know of, I think they both worked the same mineral lodes and Ladywash was still worked for flourspar until the 1980s I think. I wouldn't mind a few samples of the 'product' once he gets it up and running but as for the other thing that Eyam is famous for I have enough problems coping with the COPD and emphysema, I don't need much else ;D
