I noticed in the stat logs someone using the search criteria of "how does a winding rope connect with a cage, using Google search"
Two ways that I recall, first the rope is capped with a white metal plug in a capel, it in turn is linked to a detaching hook, commonly known as a "King Safety device", then below that is a heavy steel plate which has holes to take "D" links from which chains are anchored to the top of the cage or skip, usually six, one for each corner, and two for the middle of the cage..
With multi rope friction winders, ie Koepe, the ropes terminate into capels, which are fasted to the top of the cage.
Another type is the Balir winders which use two ropes per cage or skip, ropes terminate into capels and on top of the cage or skip is a "balance wheel" with a short rope wrapped around the balance wheel with a capel on each end that is secured by pins to the winding ropes. Anyone got any pictures???
