HOW GREEN IS MY MOUNTAIN NOW
As a child I watched it grow A smoking murky mountain Pointed pyramid with insentient grace Virtual volcano in potential threat Yet restrained in its fuming menace. A slate grey and wasted heap.
A monument to work and wealth The symbol of a revolution Industrial over burdening of nature. Racing to defeat millenniums culture In a declaration of uncaring arrogance With its venomous smothering.
With no twinge of conscience I played a part In the building of this towering threat Stone by slurried stone Blood and broken bone the mountain rose In classic Phoenix style, birthed in fire A living threat, yet a symbol of ongoing life.
And yet now your growth is stopped No filth in industry to succour you Your commercial life support switched off You have been surrendered back to nature The same nature that you sought to destroy Now nurtures you in a gentler green.
