Hopefully it will go ahead, they have a feasibility study to perform yet though.
As I posted on another site, when I started at Boulby mine in the mid 1970's, there were newspaper stories of Whitby Potash and a few other companies going ahead with their projects.
One was a solution mine towards Whitby, two others were true deep mines.
As the same goes south, so does it's depth, I think that was a major factor, plus the unknown, ie nobody knew what it was going to be like back then, or what to expect as regards to mining potash at those depths in the UK.
Even at Boulby, as the south district advanced the seam was dipping. The road down that way was pretty steep and slippy to walk down.
They are working north at the moment, I read somewhere they were going to reopen the east side once again too. My last facework before being appointed central electrician was east panel elec, I covered the south east as well.
Quiet an experience working at those depths!!
