Anyone else struggling to get on the Welshcoalmines site, it has been OK until the last two days? Seems to be getting more than it's fair share of "MY SQL" errors Daz, that's usually a sign of a lot of visitors and reaching max bandwidth level.

Ah yes the old "MY SQL" error, I should have realised that, is it something like a "Thermal Trip"?

I'll try again, slightly different question;
Has anyone been able to gain access to Welsh Coal Mining web site today? (today being 23/07/2012)

It's been playing up with "MYSQL" errors for over a week now, some days it's real bad, other days just once or twice.

You boys are throwing the wrong type of coal in your boilers to get enough steam up to log in there,
Although its getting a bit hot there now, regarding the Margam project,a certain Sparky reckoned it should be fine for the men from Daw Mill to get jobs there, when that pit closes next year.

I think if you read back, the certain lecko never even mentioned Dawmill, now a certain couple of Welsh coalminers did raise Dawmill. Please try and get your facts correct before trying to stir crap. The question the "certain lecko asked was if the "certain" colliery was to go ahead, where are the skilled tradesmen coming from, as a "certain" recruiting company is already having trouble recruiting electricians for another mining company. ;D

After some nice comments to the above question, Admin did remove a post that was totally out of order, and the "certain" lecko did post this post, and may I add "his" first mention of Dawmill.
A valid question, IF and only IF Tata go ahead with the project, and they cannot get local skilled labour, that is fitters and electricians, will you cut off your own noses and stop Daw Mill skilled tradesmen working there and stop your young folks getting good paying jobs?
I can see another way out, but I doubt any of the tradesmen on here would take it, but apply for the skilled jobs, chances are, most here are in my age group, mid sixties..So here's your chance to bury the hatchet for your young folks. THEY are more important than old "wars" which most of them won't remember as they were too young or weren't even born. It's their generation that counts, not ours. They also have the chance to learn a trade from the very scabs you despise..Are any of you willing to prevent them earning a good living or learning a trade they cannot learn at present???
As my late Mum would have said "GET OVER IT"
I used to be a strong unionist, I was pretty Bolshie in my younger days, but with age comes wisdom, I shake my head at most on here, our lot is almost over, it's time to let the young ones take over. You're not victimizing the Midlands miners, you're victimizing your young ones.[/color]

Yes John they do. I left Hucknall pit in the 70's when my Uncle died of pneumoconiosis. During the the 84/85 strike I was a van driver at the council, neither me or any family was working at the NCB. A few years ago I was on holiday in Wales when a local asked where I was from, as soon as I said Hucknall Notts, he said "oh your a scab." I explained I worked for the council in 84/85. He said "your still a scab" I gave up & walked away a bit upset as I was always NUM when I worked at NCB.....

Being born and bred in Nottingham I don't suppose helps, even though I left the UK coal industry shortly after finishing my apprenticeship at Clifton and Cotgrave in 68. Ironic that too, Cotgrave didn't follow the other pits out on strike, yet when I worked there they were a very bolshie lot and would walk off the job at the drop of a hat for the least little thing. Mongrels stopped double decking one morning, a deliberate attempt at causing industrial problems. They picked on the wrong lot though, most of the shifts elecs and fitters, they had to back down on docking us as we were ready to hit the showers, then production would have stopped... ;D

I was on strike in 1984 and even now when I go back to Durham as soon as I say where I am from all I get bloody scab from Nottingham then when I explain I was on strike it did not matter I was still a scab. All I say now is it is all in the past so just get on with life but it does make me mad.

My Mam was born in South Yorkshire, so I could inherit South Yorkshireness from her. Don't think I could do her accent though, when I was stupid (which was quite often) she'd call me a daft apeth with rounded vowels. I've been thinking of joining the welsh mining site but not sure if I'd be made welcome coming from Notts..

You could always say South Yorkshire.. ;D Try Derbyshire, it’s nearer to both Merthyr and Notts, Yorkshire doesn't adopt.

Whats all this crap about being not made welcome on the Welsh coal mines site. You boys would be made more than welcome, even the die hard union boys would welcome you with open arms,if you were on strike,as far as i know no scabs have dare venture there,2 ex Managers did for a short while, interesting guy s,but their attitude at times was their downfall.
The truth is,we only tolerate Lecko, because he seems to be a good sparks, lol.
Honestly,do any of you NUM Nottingham boys, think any UDM from Daw Mill would be daft enough to move to South Wales,If Margam ever comes off?
So i did get my facts right,Lecko did mention Daw Mill, I have no interest in stirring crap Lecko/John

Daz i have just been talking with me mate earlier today as me and the daughter were having a stroll down to the pub, it has been moth balled for a while waiting for new owners and apparently the Italians are investing in it now, they have their own processing plant over there. Me mate says they are looking at getting a small team of local miners only 6 contractors to develop an area whilst they mine what they are up to now after dewatering has taken place, i had no idea that the mineral is mined vertically in seams and that they don't bring muck out of the mine just dump it back down old workings, trying to get my lad a job there. The mine is topside a little village in Derbyshire called Eyam famous for something else?
