This is on my Caving Book list, but there is quite a bit on mining. RSVP if you need more information. MUNDUS SUBTERRANEUS in XII Libros digestus by Athanasii Kircheri 2004 being a reprint of the 1678 third edition. 22 + 366 + [6] + 507 +[9] pp. 13 x 10 inches and nearly 3 inches thick this is a very heavy tome weighing nearly 5 kilos. Kircher was a German Jesuit scholar and was famous for his scientific work. His publications mark the end of alchemy and the start of modern science. Historically this is the most important book on caves and hydrology. It contains important early description of the Antiparos Cave, Ghar Kebir and the Drachenhöhle. His hydrological hypotheses are the basis for present day theories on karst hydrology along with his explanation of the Cerknica lake, intermittent springs, formation of speleothems, and springs from both sea water and rain. This is a nicely produced volume at a fraction of the cost of the third edition.
