OK Trev, getcha finking cap on!!
No1 pit bottom, I'm assuming the pit bottom we knew was the later one?? When they put the new surge bin in, they broke through to old workings above pit bottom, I'm presuming that was the original pit bottom and was in the Deep Soft seam?
They would then be the first workings in the late 1800's then.
Now, when I first started, 41's was going, 10's was going, what was the other face?? When I got underground later that year, 1964, 10's had finished and 12's, the farthest south west we could work due to the proximity to the Bunter, and 51's in Tupton, (Low Main) were working. BUT, 51's hadn't been going very long, so there's a face I don't know of.
I'll have more questions later.

I do recall going with someone to recover some OCB's up that way and round the back.

Here's a couple of photos for Trev, The bottom one is marked "Stone Head Returns, obviously wrong, it's the South Main Returns from pit bottom down to the Deep Hard seam, but what is that from the roof?? Is it the old ski lift?? The top one I'm assuming is the centre gate of a double unit by the way the road has deteriorated, 15's???

Sadly, Trev Shaw, TJSW will no longer be adding to this site, I found out a couple of days back, he passed on from heart failure on the 31st January this year. Trev was a "mine" of information, he served his electrical apprenticeship at Cotgrave Colliery when the pit was being sunk, transferred to Clifton in the mid 60's then moved north to work at a couple of North Notts Pits, then to Manchester where he worked at a colliery in that city. He migrated to Canada in the 1970's where he worked in collieries there, a cement works. Finally retired through ill health. He'd lived in Florida for a while, returning to Canada, and lived in BC on the west coast until his death a few weeks back.
Trev came from a mining family, his Dad Bill, was an electrician at Clifton and his Uncle Tom too was an electrician at Clifton. Brian a younger brother served his apprenticeship at Clifton and Cotgrave.
RIP Trev, enjoyed our telephone conversations.
