Here's a Meco Moore Slicer Loader, probably the very first successful cutter loading machine used in longwalls. Not one has survived the scrap yards!

A typical UK face of the 60's, this one has Gullick seaman five leg chocks, plus something that was rare at that time! Face lighting.

When I worked at Dowty Meco in the 70s, there was a complete Meco-Moore Cutter Loader under a large steel plate in the Machine Shop.
Although the site is now Joy Mining, I bet it could still be there today. If anyone knows.....

It would be nice to think it's still there! If it is, it needs preserving, as it could well be the only one left in existence!

Re the Meco Moore cutter loader, there used to be a complete one under the machine shop at Dowty Meco when I worked there. For all I know, it is probably still there.
It's now Joy Mining, but still operating in Worcester. I suppose if it still exists, it's probably worth a small fortune.

The old 5 leg Gullicks were the first I experienced on my Coal Face Training at Newstead early 70's First chocks I worked under were Dowty Roofmasters, we had two faces of them, 41's and 12's both in deep hard seam. Visitors were always taken to inspect the 41's installation. Ran on hydraulic oil, so shows you the rough date! Our third face at that time, 51's used Westphalia's(sp) imported from Germany. Then the last year of the pit we had two faces using the Gullick Seaman 5 leg chocks your on about Gaz. It was those chocks that caused the end of longwall mining in Australia for a few years too!
