Three seperate explosions in the same coal mine over a period of about two weeks, 106 dead, more than sixty hospitalised, the mine continued to work throughout, but now a point of economic balance (or is that political credibility?) is close to being reached, what price coal? Acting Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovich, the president's longstanding rival, acknowledged that the Zasyadko mine, a major producer of coking coal, could be closed, but said doing so would have severe economic consequences for Ukrainian industry. www.khaleejtimes.com/DisplayArticleNew.asp?xfile=data/theworld/2007/December/theworld_December96.xml§ion=theworld&colafrica.reuters.com/world/news/usnL03670621.html
