So been working on restoring an Oscilloscope. A few years back I bought seven "scopes for parts" at a good price, all Tektronix that cost an arm and a leg when they were first sold. I got one 2465 a 300Mhz four channel scope working, just an open circuit capacitor in the switching power supply, works a treat on all 4 channels, bought a parts scope that arrived yesterday a Tektronix 2246, checked it out, well you never know!! But it has problems, so cannibalized it for the power supply and a screen plate, fitted it into a 2246 that had a bad P/S, put everything back together and another good working scope from the original 7 "for parts" scopes Just got two Tektronixs 2465 to correct faults on, one for a spare and one to sell. Getting ready to set an electronics workshop bench up, I have a couple of audio amplifiers I need to go through and needed a couple of good working scopes to see whats going off in the audio amplifiers.
1980's models Tektronix scope can be picked up around $30 each working, originally costing $1700 when new, the 300Mhz bandwidth scopes cost a little more if working like the 2465 which cost over $7000 in the 1980's brand new. Could have bought a good new car for that price back then!!! I think my Cortina cost me $4000 brand new in 1981.
