I've a copy of a booklet written by an old feller, who has probably been dead now 20 odd years called "Radford, The Bread and Herring Pit" He'd started at Radford Colliery as a young trainee at the turn of the last century. He gives a narrative of his life and how hard it was way back, right up to Radfords closure in the early 1960's, where he was invited to throw the first spade of dirt down the shaft before the contractor started the job. Not sure about copyright, I could find none in the copy, but thinking of putting it up here sometime for educational purposes.
