My father is trying to find out about his Grandfather Joseph Arundel. He has a very fine illuminated address in a frame, which was awarded to his Grandfather by the men of Wheldale Colliery in March 1915 following his dismissal. Apparently it was one of those things never discussed in the family and so my dad has no idea what happened, or why he was dismissed. However, he believes it may have been because as colliery manager he was too friendly with the union men. If anyone knows anything about this, or has any idea how we could find out more, we would be very grateful for any information or ideas.
