Look, I may know jack nuts about coal (I'm mostly o the lookout for Cobalt and Silver in my area) but I found a big seam and I need someone to help figure out how to torn it into money. I'm offering a 50% stake for anyone who knows their nuts. If you have credentials I have a strike and I need to get after it before any other lookie-lou gets into it. It may be back country but with the moratorium on mineral and coal leases gone there's more guys combing the hills than ever. Edit: I did run a BLM records search, there isn't another claim or lease request for 50 miles. This is out in the middle of nowhere on federal land and an EIS isn't going to do jack to the lease because it's off the subteranean water table (basin aquifer, no pollution of anything outside the valley) and the only protected areas are 2 springs outside the seam (the closest one is about 30 yards the other is well over a mile away from any evidence of the seam)

I'd presume you'd have to get a lease, permits to mine and planning permits for buildings etc. To mine commercially you'll need machinery, a means to get your product to market, roads rail etc. Permits from the relevant state mining authorities and of course the Inspectorate. You'll have to present a mining plan, ventilation plan, I suspect there will be loads of paperwork and permits to fill out. Commercially, you'll need power for machines, conveyors etc.. You will probably be required to have someone in charge who carries the necessary federal paperwork to operate a coal mine too, not sure on US regulations without looking them up, but having worked in collieries on two continents, I can tell you there are plenty of rules and regulations in coal mining, remember the dust is dangerous to health in two ways, it's highly flammable and causes lung disease, then you have methane and other gasses to encounter. Best of luck in the venture, you'll need it.

Thanks, with any luck I'll be able to track down someone on this side of the pond who has the permits and is fammilliar with the leasing process.
