China has banned the imports of N.Korean coal after N.Korea carried out missile tests. I didn't even know that N.Korea mined coal but looking on the net it seems the country is quite rich in mineral deposits. www.rt.com/business/384334-north-korea-china-coal/

I think the story is fake news to fit the current agenda.

China has been a major importer of fairly large quantities of extremely high quality North Korean anthracite for decades.

Discussion on North Korean CoalPg33 Figure 13 shows the Growth in North Korea (DPRK Regime) Anthracite Export to China took off from 2001. 2013 = 16.5Million Tons of Anthracite Coal exported to China 2015 = 21.7Million Tons of Anthracite Coal exported to China Fount of Web knowledges ikiW says underPower & Energy… “ North Korea has no coking coal, but has substantial reserves of anthracite in Anju, Aoji (Ŭndŏk), and other areas. Coal production peaked at 43 million tons in 1989 and steadily declined to 18.6 million tons in 1998. Major causes of coal shortages include mine flooding, and outdated mining technology. As coal was used mainly for industry and electricity generation, decrease in coal production caused serious problems in industrial production and electricity generation. Coal production may not necessarily increase significantly until North Korea imports modern mining technology.” ****** Atlas gives the export earnings dollar values AtlasHS92Coal Briquettes are also known as coal, black coal, hard coal, stone coal. Coal Briquettes are a 4 digit HS92 product. North Korea Coal Export 20002000 - Coal Briquettes $10.4M to Japan North Korea Coal Export 20012001 - Coal Briquettes $13.5M Total. $12M to Japan, $1.5M to China North Korea Coal Export 20052005 - Coal Briquettes $112M Total. $96.3M to China, $15.7M to Japan North Korea Coal Export 20072007 - Coal Briquettes $146M Total. All to China North Korea Coal Export 20102010 - Coal Briquettes $353M Total. All to China North Korea Coal Export 20152015 - Coal Briquettes $951M Total. $930M to China Interestingly China Now exports to Japan??? China Coal Export 2015Does that mean that China imports High Quality Anthracite from North Korea and blends it with PRC mined Coal and then exports it to Japan? Or is the North Korea imported Anthracite used for a specific purpose in PRC? Rob
